Debt consolidation loan rates at the lenders we reviewed run from 6.3% to 35.99% APR. The bank average is 11.9% (Federal Reserve G.19).

The first thing to do is call a specialist. Here are the options they walk you through.

What the published debt consolidation loan rates show

No lender lists a price for each credit score. Each lender does publish its full range on its own page.

LightStream runs 9.99% to 23.94% with autopay (LightStream). Upstart runs 6.3% to 35.99%, and Discover runs 6.99% to 24.99%. Wells Fargo runs 6.74% to 26.74% (Wells Fargo).

Credit unions run lower. In the NCUA’s Q2 2025 comparison, a 36-month unsecured fixed-rate loan was 10.74% at credit unions and 12.02% at banks (NCUA).

The specialist on our line sets each range next to your card rates.

What moves your rate

Credit score counts most. Next comes your debt-to-income ratio, then the term and the amount.

Few applicants get the bottom price. LightStream says at least 33% of applicants for its lowest rate qualified for it from April to June 2026 (LightStream). Wells Fargo says at least 10% of approved applicants got its lowest rate in those same months (Wells Fargo).

So expect an offer above the lowest rate a lender lists. The specialist on our line compares offers from more than one lender with you before you choose.

Autopay matters too. LightStream charges 0.50 points more without it. Wells Fargo’s lowest rate includes a 0.25% relationship discount for existing customers.

Fixed or variable

Every lender listed here offers a set rate on personal loans, so the payment never changes. Card rates move. The CFPB notes an issuer can raise the rate on your whole balance after a payment more than 60 days late.

A fixed loan removes that risk. A home equity line, by contrast, is usually variable.

What a rate means in real dollars

On $18,000 over four years, 11.9% costs $473 a month and $4,710 in interest (Federal Reserve). At 18%, the payment is $529. At 26%, it is $607, with $11,132 in interest.

Weigh the monthly payment you can afford against the total cost. The specialist checks that each offer states its repayment period clearly.

Each point of rate on $18,000 over four years is worth about $427 in interest. So even one point lower is real money over four years.

Before you borrow

What’s a good interest rate for a debt consolidation loan?

A good rate costs less in total than your cards over a term you can afford. The 11.9% bank average is a benchmark, not a rate tied to any score. Count any fee and the amount you actually receive.

Is 7% interest high for a personal loan?

No. 7% sits near the bottom of every range listed here and well under the 11.9% bank average. Only the strongest applicants get it.

How much is the payment on a $50,000 consolidation loan?

It is about $1,110 a month over five years at 11.9%, or $1,270 at 18%, before fees. Several lenders’ amount ranges include $50,000. The specialist compares actual offers with you, not just how much each lender will lend.

Do credit card consolidations hurt your credit?

Your score dips a little for the inquiry and the new account. Then it rises as your cards drop to zero. Our page on whether consolidation hurts your credit goes through it month by month.
